Event Details

Music, Science, Poetry, and Sound meet in a multimedia concert featuring music inspired by the natural world around us.

The Eugene Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, in partnership with the Science and Learning Center at Crater Lake National Park and the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance, will present a multimedia concert featuring music inspired by the natural soundscapes around us. The program will feature guest soprano Estelí Gomez performing new songs by Oregon composers Robert Chastain, David Eisenband, Nicole Portley, Diana Rosenblum, and Jacob Walls alongside the world premiere of composer Andrew Stiefel's Echoes of a Sonic Habitat III, commissioned by Crater Lake National Park. Other musical selections include Pacific Northwest composers John Luther Adams and Emily Dolittle, and the music of French composer Tristan Murail.

Beer and Tea will be available for purchase during the show.

Eugene Contemporary Chamber Ensemble

The Eugene Contemporary Chamber Ensemble (ECCE) is a flexible ensemble of talented young instrumentalists that performs in forces ranging from solos to large ensembles. Through dynamic collaborations, community engagement, and innovative concert experiences, ECCE advances the music of our day by creating original concert experiences and by connecting with new audiences. Dedicated to promoting the newest voices of our art, ECCE hosts an open call for scores and presents the music of emerging voices alongside the music of the leading composers of our time.

Since its founding in 2005, ECCE has presented over 60 world premieres in venues around Oregon. ECCE has collaborated with the Eugene Symphony Orchestra, Filmusik, Opera Theater Oregon, Classical Revolution PDX, Duo/Trio/Quattro, the City of Eugene, the University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts, and many talented musicians, dancers, and visual artists. The group has performed at leading venues in Portland and Eugene, including the Hollywood Theater, the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, the Bamboo Grove Salon, Beall Concert Hall, and other exciting locations in the Eugene and Portland metropolitan areas.

Former directors include founder Jerry HuiSam L. RichardsScott J. Ordway, and Seth Stewart. The ensemble is currently directed by Andrew Stiefel, who joined the ensemble in September 2011.
